long time, no talk Posted: Jun 7, 2007

Hello people. How is everyone? I know it's been a while, but holy cow, a lot has been going on. I am typing this blog chilling on my couch, listening to Goo Goo Dolls in my new apartment in Boston. It's been about a month now since I waved good bye to Indiana. A lot has happened over the past few months... so where to start?

First, if you go to my myspace page (myspace.com/katietrotta) you can hear a newly recorded song by yours truly. For the band's last show we all thought it would be cool to do a cover song. We thought it would be a nice change of pace and something special to add to the set list for our last gig. After a couple of weeks of debating and 'friendly' arguing over which song to do, we gave up the idea. Corey (guitarist) and I were the only two who could agree on a song and decided to do something on our own. 'Time After Time' has always been one of mine and Corey's favorite songs. So at our last show at Birdy's in Indianapolis, Tim and Terry took a break and left the stage in the middle of the set and Corey joined me on the keyboard bench to sing back-up vocals with me to 'Time After Time'. Considering that I've known Corey the longest out of any of the band members and the fact that we've been working together since my first album, it was quite an emotional and special part of the show for me.

Beyond performing the song live, we wanted to record it. Ever since this song's release in the 80's countless bands have played it as a cover song, each putting their own spin to it. At the show, we kept it extremely simple with only keyboard and vocals. But for the recording, Corey and I went into it wanting to duplicate Cyndi Lauper's original version as closely as possible. And after several nights of going through drum sequencing and searching for the most 80's sounding guitar patches and synth sounds we could find, we finished our own version of the 80's classic. So take a listen and let me know what you think. Oh, and shoot me a messages if you would like to hear the fancy spoof we did about making fun of our bass player, called 'Terry After Terry'. It's pretty fantastic, if I do say so myself.

Also, here in a couple of weeks I will be posting some brand spankin' new solo songs on my myspace page that I recorded before I moved. Yep, I know, finally some new songs... yay!

In other news, I started class at the Berklee College of Music a week and a half ago. I've only been in school for eight days and Berklee is already living up to it's amazing reputation. It is a little overwhelming, everything from being far from home and alone in a completely new city to taking on a crazy class load and still finding time to continue to do my own music and sometimes getting some sleep... but it's a good kind of overwhelming. I'm being completley immersed in music and am surrounded by some of the best musicians and music teachers in the world, what more could I ask for?

**FYI: I have gotten so many emails asking about where to buy songs with the band. Up until now, the EP has only been available at shows. I am happy to announce that 'Metamorphosis' is now available on cdbaby.com to buy. Also, in a couple of days that songs will be available for digital distribution on everything from iTunes to Napster to MSN music and everything in between. So if you've been wanting your own copy of 'Metamorphosis' or would like to have one of the band songs on your iPod, now you can. :)

Alright kids, I must put my tired butt to bed now. Until next time, go to myspace and take a listen to 'Time After Time', keep checking back for new songs, go to cdbaby.com and pick up a cd, and say no to rising gas prices by carpooling.

hugs and kisses -

big news, big changes, big move... Posted: Mar 6, 2007

Hello everyone. Yes, I know it's been 82 years since I posted a new update. I apology for being a lazy internet bum... but I've been a little busy.

So why the new post today? Well, I have some news that I want to share with everyone. This past September I applied for the Berklee College of Music. In December I went to Chicago for a live audition. Then last Thursday, I received notice that I have been accepted. -happy dance-

What does that mean for my music, my band, and me? Well, I start school this summer semester, which means I will be leaving my hometown of Indianapolis, IN and moving out East to Boston at the beginning of May. My band will break up when I leave. My bandmates Corey, Tim, and Terry (who are so amazing each in his own way) will stay here in Indiana and will probably join other bands. As for my music, I will continue to write and hopefully start playing out solo shows around Boston.

Thank you to everyone who has been supportive over the past couple of years. This move and starting school at Berklee is huge for me and it's always comforting to know that there are people out there cheering me on.

the explanation for July Posted: Jul 5, 2006

Hello and welcome to the July of 2006 edition of the Katie Trotta newsletter! Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July and that the weather cooperated for fireworks wherever you were. Don't know if you've notices but there are no show dates for July. Why? you might ask. Well, let me explain what's going on...

On June 20 I left Indianapolis and headed to the East coast for what was planned to be a three week long tour. Only two shows into the tour, I realized that there was something wrong with my troat and it was really affecting my voice. I went to a doctor in Boston who specializes in voice (for anyone who is in the Boston/Cambridge area and needs a vocal doctor, Dr. Franco at Mass Ear and Eye is awesome!). He stuck a camera down my troat, took a look around, made me go "Eeeee, aaaah", and then told me that with the state that my throat and vocal chords are in that I needed to cancel all my upcoming shows. Thus, the tour got cut extremely short. Luckily Dr. Franco told me that nothing is permanently wrong with my voice and with some new medicine and vocal rest, I should be back in singing shape in a few weeks.

So, I'm sorry to announce that there will be no shows in July because I'm home resting my sore vocal chords. While I'm home all month, my band is going to be gearing up to start playing out with our new drummer Tim Plunkett. Which brings me to my next point... from here on out I'm going to be focusing more on my band. Although I love traveling across the country and playing out solo, my focus is going to shift to getting my band really up and off the ground. We'll be playing mostly around Indiana and the surrounding regional areas. We have a brand newly pressed demo that we will be selling at shows and I'm finishing up designs for a couple t-shirts that will also be sold at shows. - happy dance for t-shirts! -

There you have it. My July news of no shows, vocal rest, and band preparation. This month I will also be working on writing some new songs among all those other things. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the most fantastic thing about this month... I'm turning 21 on July 31st!! The thought that I will be able to go see amazing bands at any venue play makes me happier than you can imagine. :) Okay, until the next time I realize that I haven't updated my news section in a matter of months, take care -

oatmeal Posted: Apr 18, 2006

It's been waaay too long since my last update. I know, I'm a slacker! So I decided that this morning, while I'm eating breakfast (which consists of oatmeal, eggs, and half a grapefruit...oh so healthy), that I'm going to update my 'news' section with new news.

Last week was an exciting week for my band, which the guys and I have affectionately given the nickname 'The KTB'. Terry (bass player) played his first show with us. We played two shows in Indianapolis. Corey (guitar), Terry, and I played as a three piece on Wednesday. Another local Indianapolis band called Missing 6 opened for us. (Check these guys out! They're awesome.) I actually filled in on keyboard for their set. Then on Saturday we had our first full band gig since Terry joined the group. Overall, both shows went great and we're excited about more shows coming up this summer.

FYI: We are still looking for a new drummer. If you're interested, or know someone who would be, please shoot me an email (katie@katietrotta.com) or just send one through the contact page.

In other, completely unrelated news... I'm so excited that it's spring!! The weather has been up and down here in Indiana (sunshine one day, apocalyptic storms the next), but today the sun is shining. There's a congregation of birds on my neighbor's roof that have gathered this morning to build a nest in their gutter. I guess that's better than what happened last year. Last summer, a group of squirrels figured out that there was a hole between the roof and the wall of their house big enough to squeeze into. Every time I was in my kitchen I saw another squirrel wiggling its way into that hole. I don't know how many squirrels they had living in their attic by the end of summer, but I'm sure the number was getting up there.

Alright, enough about my neighbors and the animals who like to inhabit their house. I'm off to get other work done. Over and out -

New developments in the works... Posted: Feb. 7, 2006

Okay, January seriously disappeared. One month in 2006 down, eleven to go. This past weekend the band had it's first photo shoot. We shot it at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Talk about a cool place! We would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone there who made it possible for us to take pictures. The new pics should be up within the next couple of weeks. In other news, we'd like to congratulate our drummer Jon who has recently taken a promotion at work. Unfortunately, though, with his new work hours this means that Jon is leaving the band. So we are looking for a new drummer! If you are a drummer, know a drummer, or can send telepathic messages to a drummer, we want to hear from you. Email me at katie@katietrotta.com ( or just send a message through the contact page ). Alright, until next time, take care, keep warm, and have a happy Valentine's Day -
